Quality Cabinet Box Construction
The sides, bottoms and tops of our cabinetry are constructed with a 3/4 inch veneer core plywood. The backs of our cabinetry are constructed with a 1/4 inch veneer core plywood. You will not find any cardboard or particle board here. For finished sides we use a 3/4" combi-core plywood that is constructed of Aspen inner-plies and two outer crossbands of high quality MDF and decorative face and back veneers. This type of plywood has 100% void free crossbands and has a thicker veneer which improve finishing characteristics. Shelves are adjustable and 3/4" thick providing strength to eliminate any sagging.
When searching for cabinets look at how the cabinets are constructed. With this said you need to look beyond the fronts of the cabinets and into the interior and box construction. Many companies use fancy solid wood exteriors and then use particle board and melamine particle board which can deteriorate especially near water sources such as sinks. These companies think they can get by and have by using cheap box construction methods and materials. Many companies also use ½ inch thick material that isn't as strong as ¾ inch. I try to use the most affordable material that offers the best in quality.
It's all in the Details.
To truly appreciate the quality of Custom Woodworks, you really have to look closely at the smallest details. That's what makes the big difference in quality.
All components of our work is built and finished in the Custom Woodworks shop and then installed fully finished in your home or business.
The cost of cabinetry should be determined by the quality of the materials and the craftsmanship. With this said, when searching for cabinets, your first question should not be "what's the cost". Instead you should ask, "What materials are the cabinets constructed from and how are they constructed?"
Wood Quality
With cabinetry production there are varying degrees of quality. There are those who use substandard wood or even particleboard in places where they think customers won't notice. However this is not the Custom Woodworks way. At Custom Woodworks, we only use the finest hardwoods, raised to the perfect age, and slowly kiln-dried to the proper moisture content to prevent splitting and provide years of solid, reliable use. To maintain this proper moisture content, your home needs to maintain a level of humidity between 25% and 55%.
Quality Face Frame Construction
We build our face frames using blind mortise and tennon joints. You won't find pocket screws or dowels with us.
Quality Door Construction
We build our own doors in-house offering raised panels and flat panels with different profiles to suit your preference. We also can do arched raised panel doors. All of our raised or flat panel doors consist of a five piece construction with a true solid wood panel.
Quality Drawer Construction
To ensure that your drawers will maintain its shape for generations, our drawers feature dovetail joints on both front and back and have a 3/4 inch side and back thickness. Check out the back bottom and sides of our drawers; each drawer is usually made of either oak or maple and is finished all around. For drawer slides we offer a side mount ball bearing drawer slide made by Knape & Vogt and also an undermount slide made by Blum. The Blum undermount has an added benefit of having a soft closing mechanism that eliminates loud slamming drawers and pinched fingers.
This is the Custom Woodworks way…………..
"The bitterness of poor quality workmanship remains long after the sweetness of cheap prices are forgotten."
