There are a lot of things listed below that most folks would consider environmentally friendly, but perhaps the best thing we do is make quality cabinetry that's built to last. Crafted from beautiful, slow-growth hardwoods and finished with your choice of stains and hardware, you're far more likely to find our cabinetry in a mansion on a hill than a landfill. If its worth cutting a tree down its worth doing right.
For lighting the Custom Woodworks shop uses energy efficient 65 watt compact florescent light bulbs.
Warm and Comfortable Winters
Custom Woodworks is heated using an energy-efficient in floor radiant heating system.
We make sure no lumber is wasted
Sawdust is either sold or given to farmers for use in livestock bedding. Scraps are also sold or given to help folks heat homes or shops.
If walls could talk
In addition to our in floor radiant heating system, the walls of our shop has a spray in foam insulation with an R-value far higher than most homes. This helps provide a comfortable working environment year-round while dramatically reducing our heating and cooling needs.
To make trees suitable for Custom Woodworks Cabinetry it takes a long time. So we make sure that every board is used to its fullest.
In fact, most of our hardwood suppliers are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, which works hard to ensure that forestry is practiced in an environmentally responsible and economical manner.
In addition Custom Woodworks uses optimizer technology to maximize lumber utilization. This includes a computer program that calculates the most efficient way to cut lumber to get the greatest yield.
Keeping Delivery Materials Out of Landfills
At Custom Woodworks, our cabinetry is blanket wrapped for delivery. I find it protects our cabinetry exceptionally well. It also dramatically reduces the amount of foam, cardboard and dangerous plastics that are used by many mass production cabinet manufactures. Eventually these foam, cardboard and plastics end up in landfills unlike the blankets that can be used over and over.
